Jack Taylor suffered horrific wounds to his neck and head when he was attacked in the kitchen and chased into the garden as he tried to escape.

His brother Daniel, 20, was arrested minutes later and led away in handcuffs by police called to the semi-detached house on an estate in Wibsey, Bradford, West Yorkshire.

He is known to have received profession treatment for mental health problems and was the subject of a three year Asbo which expired earlier this month.

It was imposed over allegations that he and other youths terrorised local people while drinking and smoking cannabis.

His sister Rachel, 18, suffered injuries to her hands and arms when she tried to disarm the attack and was seen to walk into an ambulance with one arm in a bandage.

She lives with her boyfriend and one year old daughter in Rookes Avenue where Jack was visiting when the attack took place on Thursday evening.

He and his brother lived 50 yards away with their father Timothy, an unemployed truck driver, mother Louise and 16 year old sister Elisha at another semi-detached house in Richardson Avenue.

A neighbour who witnessed the aftermath of the attack and did not wish to be named said: "His [Jacks] mum and dad were outside screaming their hearts out.

"His mum was shouting `I want to know if hes alright. They were hugging each other.

"I saw them bringing someone out on a stretcher. They were saying `Is he going to be OK? The father said `Hes stabbed him, hes stabbed him hes nearly killed him."

Jack was declared dead at Bradford Royal Infirmary half an hour after the attack.

Residents on the estate which the family moved to four years ago described Jack, who was known locally as Jackson, as "a lovely little lad".

Dale Webster, 24, who lives yards from the family, said: "He was a cute little boy and came to get sponsorship to play football for his school football team two or three months ago.

"I saw him playing up and down and with his bike quite a lot. He just seemed like a normal kid loved being out and about doing stuff."

Trevor Bairstow, whose granddaughter went to Wibsey Primary School with Jack, said: "He was lovely, he never caused me any trouble. He was like any other kid really, up to mischief, but no bother. Its a huge shock to find out that a nine year old boy has been killed."

West Yorkshire Police said a 20 year old man was being held in suspicion of murder and assault.
