Hot on the heels of Mark Padmore and Paul Lewiss greatest comment of Schuberts good song-cycle (Harmonia Mundi, HMU 907484) comes an additional effort version, here with fortepiano accompaniment. Werner Güra is magnificently smart and musically precise. His opening is regularly superb and wholesome but misses the note of heated devout gloom that Padmore mines.
